Designer Statement / Malaysia
Heritage is a starting point, never a boundary.
Ronnie is the Malaysian fashion designer behind Batik NXT. His practice treats batik as a living design language—something that can be enlarged, fragmented, layered and cut into new forms.
By bringing together modern tailoring, transparency, lace and sculptural drape, he develops a contemporary Malaysian point of view for an international context. The intention is not to reproduce tradition, but to let it move forward with confidence.
The studio begins in Malaysia and looks outward, building a visual identity grounded in local intelligence and open to international conversation.
“I begin with the motif, but I do not let it remain decoration. I ask how it can become a seam, a shadow, a volume or a gesture around the body.”
Creative Method
The process moves from cultural memory to garment architecture through four deliberate transformations.
Scale
Botanical forms are enlarged until they begin to behave like architecture.
Layer
Batik, lace and transparency are composed at different depths.
Cut
The drawing is resolved through proportion, movement and construction.
